To Ren or not to Ren? : Shall I try a new skincare cleanser workout today?

As some of you will know from my YT channel, I am a devoted fan of Eve Lom's Ultimate Cleanser. It is the single one thing in my skincare routine to which I am absolutely and resolutely loyal.

I am now scraping the bottom of my current jar : D (which of course gives me great pleasure) and this one has lasted me a good 8 months.

I have tried similar items which have endeavoured to replicate Eve Lom - Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Cleanser, Clarins Marula Oil, Bharti Vyas Skin wisdom for Tesco (UK supermarket). I know Clinique has one - but not so interested in that. Today I spotted another like balm cleanser in SpaceNK - Ren's No. 1 Purity Cleanser.

I'm intrigued by it because it is the closest to the Eve Lom Cleanser in texture that I have seen of all the like cleansers on the market. Also, it had the most gorgeous smell, thanks to the 'silky rose infusion' scent it has. Retail price is £28 for 150ml - which is both just over half the price of Eve Lom, the latter which is less as well of 100ml. And of late, I'm all for trying more natural, 'offbeat' (pardon my ignorance!) lines like Korres to see if they really do make a difference.

I am going to try it. If only really to once again, prove that Eve Lom is the mistress of balm cleansers. Big words I know. : D I'll be posting my review on YT in due course!

Have any of you experienced this product - or of this line?

Sunday outfit workout - the obsession with denim continues!

I spent the day with a girlfriend - checking out the newly refurbished Whitechapel Art Gallery and then onto Brick Lane and Spitalfields - which on a Sunday is just buzzing!

So, this is what I wore today - a denim dress that I bought in the Dorothy Perkins sale last year...and I love it! I teamed it with my M&S black leggings, Topshop metal studded ballets and a Matthew Williamson for Debenhams scarf which I used as a belt.

Makes me feel very country western : D

FOTD workout - movie date night

Went to see Transformers 2 with the SO at the 02 centre yesterday, and I love the 02 cinema because it's just so huuuuuggge - great for seeing action movies : D The movie was #meh# (shrugs shoulders) but I really liked my eye combo for the FOTD.

I'm gonna try & fit all my products on an A4 piece of paper - just to see if I can get it all into one small space!

And final result:

So here are the products used, incl tools:

Smashbox Healthy Fx fdn L3
Becca Duo Concealer in Tahini
MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre
Tarte Rest Assured eye pencil on waterline
MAC Smut e/s (from the Free to Be e/s quad)
MAC Subtle pigment in crease and out

Bobbi Brown Kabuki brush used with the MAC MSFN

Oh, and fingers of course!

....and the outfit to go with was very comfy, a Zara cotton denim tunic with M&S black leggings, Topshop metal studded black ballets:

...we parked opposite the David Beckham Football Academy - no sign of David though : D

Fashion workout dilemma: Ebay dress score! How to work it though?

Saturday morning came and I received this gorgeous vintage tea dress that was such a score on ebay! It's in pristine condition and fits perfectly. Perfect for summer and light, with a pretty flower print with varying shades of teal and blue, punctuated with purple flowers.

I had to try it on and work out what accessories would match it. I teamed it with my fave leather wedges (Next summer season 2008) and a leather brown belt with butterfly buckle that I got in a vintage shop. I do't think it works : ( Thinking I should try a lighter coloured belt like white or tan, same with the shoes. And maybe a skinny belt rather than wide?

What do you think?

Skincare workout of the month - Bliss Daily Detoxifying Facial Toner

I was never that hot on skincare toners. Back in the day, I used to use the Clinique toners which were so alcohol potent and this turned me off! But especially when I discovered Eve Lom, and her Cleanser which is an ultimate staple of mine and has made such a difference to my skin, I thought that I didn't need one. I still don't think a 'toner' is an absolute must have. But this one from Bliss is doing a good job of convincing me otherwise.

Eve Lom doesn't advocate using toners as they strip oils away from the skin, and her regime and line doesn't include this item. But due to stress and hormones I think, I developed quite a few clogged pores and bumps along my chin line. Now I think this was also because I didn't include in my daily washing a thorough cleanse of my neck, so that the makeup and dirt would just #sit# on the edge of my face on my jawline until I had a shower. But a SA at Mario Badescu suggested I use their Cucumber Lotion which was alcohol free and gentle. I found that it cleared up the congestion quite well, and was refreshing. And it didn't interfere with my Eve Lom cleansing regime.

I then became interested in something that offered me a little something more (as we all do on our beauty journey!)in terms of anti-aging, prevention etc. I moved onto the Dermologica Age Smart toner which at the time was being marketed as the new big thing - but it did nothing for me. Like the spray bottle though, have kept that : D

So - I read about the Bliss Daily Detoxifying Toner in a writeup in some UK magazine. I was intrigued because I've never tried/or been interested in this line though I have bought gifts for family & friends who have all said they like the stuff.

The blurb on the back of the bottle says that it is a:

- 'skin softening toner that provides antioxidant protection against everyday environmental aggressors'.
- delivers a 'dew' back into your skin.
- contains 'calming rose water and free radical-fighting malachite'
- contains 'sodium hyaluronate' to help your skin retain moisture
- is alcohol free
- has a citrus scent

This is where the sceptic in me tries to push aside all the marketing bumpf and hype. The liquid is a liquid, but has a bit more of consistency than your traditional liquid toner so you need to use a cotton pad to apply rather than a spray. The sodium bit I believe as I've used products with this in it before which has really kept my skin moisturised. And I have combo skin.

In short (as this is turning out to be an essay!), I have experienced the follwing benefits:
- the texture of my skin feels smoother
- those bumps on my jawline are much much less
- my moisturiser just glides on

I've been using it for a month now, and want to test it out a bit further, especially as the weather is changing in the UK - and will do a review on my YT channel. So I'm pleased and surprised about this product. I don't care much for the scent - which in my mind is more grapefruit than 'a sublime citrus scent'.

One bottle (200ml) retails at £20 in the UK. I will do another update on it soon!

Has anyone else tried Bliss products - and what's your experience?

Beauty workout of the day - #nearly# running late again for work

I WAS on time for work, arriving just before 9am, for a meeting that started on the dot. But I wasn't so organised in the makeup department for sure. See what I mean:

I did the basics of basics, and I look like I only have a hint of colour on. But I feel that I look quite 'awake' and fresh, besides the obvious bags underneath my eyes, with as much discolouration knocked back. Though this is an occasion where I like that my freckles show : D

Products that helped me this morning:
Bobbi Brown Long Lasting foundation mixed in with Olay Radiance Cream
Becca Duo Concealer on eyes (under and on lid)
Tarte Rest Assured flesh coloured pencil on waterline
MAC Gold Mode pigment lightly dusted on lids
Maybelline Full and Soft mascara (lashes curled of course)
Stila Gladiola on cheeks
A Japanese brand pink lipstick

I really must get out of bed earlier......
